And now for something completely different - A hubcap banjo.

I found this hubcap in a junk shop along the side of the road and it just said 'banjo' (878KB mp3) to me. The pot is made of five plies of maple I bent using a 2" pipe heated by a propane torch. The neck is made of mahogany with bolivian rosewood fingerboard, headstock and heel. I used a goat skin for the head.

Here is the second banjo in the series.

This one uses a 1950s era Buick hubcap. This time I made the pot out of 24 sections of cherry turned on the lathe. The neck is made of mahogany with bolivian rosewood fingerboard, headstock and heel. I used a goat skin for the head. I recorded my friend Bob playing this (709KB mp3) and another friend, Jason, played this (973KB mp3)
